New Year’s
Resolutions come in many forms. Some reevaluate their eating habits; some make vows
to strengthen their relationships with God, and some resolve to drastically
revamp their wardrobe. We imagine
ourselves in the upcoming year as an improved person who has successfully
executed their New Years Resolutions and work towards that image.
At times I get bored
with my own wardrobe and have been looking for ways to add a style signature to
it. I have always enjoyed the look of poise and sophistication of women who
wear brooches. The vintage glamor and woman-like allure of such a simple
statement piece literally (as well as figuratively) adds something extra to any
outfit. That’s why in 2015 I’ve made a fashion resolution to collect brooches
and work them into my personal style. Some have quirky socks, some have wacky
hair colors, and some have handsome hats that separate them from others in a
unique way. I have the brooch. Making a fashion resolution is easy!
Here are 4 simple
(less specific) Fashion resolutions to try in 2015!
1.
Understand
YOUR body type and dress for it. At times fashion can
be frustrating. You pick up an amazing item and it doesn’t quite fit you the
way it does on the model or even a friend you saw wearing something similar.
This way you end up buying clothes you like in theory instead of what you can
actually wear. The reality that all trends—all styles— aren’t for everyone can
be a hard pill to swallow however, educating yourself on things like
silhouettes and proportions can help you come up with a fair assessment of your
body type making fashion more satisfying.
If this is you, don’t be afraid to learn your body and dress for YOU!
2.
Buy
clothes in colors other than black, charcoal, grey, etc.
Black clothing is versatile, easy, and ever-so convenient but it’s extremely
easy to get sucked into the black hole of fashion. Some become so comfortable
in all black that they forget how fun fashion (with color) can be. If that’s
you, let 2015 be the year you brighten up your wardrobe!
3.
Wear
more heels! Whether you’re 5’3” or 5’11” heels can
be a girl’s best friend! Some ladies have always been comfortable in heels and
others, not so much. If stilettos make you feel like the Leaning Tower of Pisa
try a wedge that gives more support, or a chunky heel if you have more weight
to carry. If 2015 is your year to walk to higher heights, pick a heel that
suits you and go for it!
4.
Actually
participate in the sport, instead of just shopping for it. Every year some of us
make resolutions to finally get fit! We go out and buy all the Nike fits and
running shoes Footlocker has to offer, get real cute to go to the gym and post
all our workout selfies on Instagram. Three months later you find yourself
putting on your workout gear to go to the mall or to get your hair done. If
this is you, in 2015, let’s get real with ourselves (and our wallets) and not let
our workout gear become loungewear.
The key to a
successful resolution is to do what works for YOU. If you’re used to rocking
the all black look and don’t want to dive right into cobalt blues and high
yellows, try accessorizing with color or prints with a comfortable amount of
black in still in them. If you’re a guy
who loves workout gear because it’s
comfortable, set aside a few items you’ll really workout in. Whatever your
resolution is, tailor it to your individual taste and develop your own style signature!
